Students, District Launch Shoe Donation Drive

Students, District Launch Shoe Donation Drive
Posted on 03/02/2023

This March, students and staff at the Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District are participating in a kindness project to help make the community and the world a better place.

Students took part in a special assembly with Think Kindness founder Brian Williams, who encouraged students to take a pledge to make the world better than they did the day before. As part of the pledge, students also agreed to participate in a shoe donation drive to help orphans and school-aged children in Costa Rica and Africa.
Students, family, and friends are asked to check their closets and spare rooms for sneakers or shoes that they can donate. Boots, heels, or sandals cannot be accepted. Please tie the laces together if the shoes have laces. Shoes will be collected in bags located in each classroom, and we’ll send as many pairs as we collect to children who may have never owned a pair of their own before.

Our goal: 5,000 pairs of shoes.

This is one of many small acts of kindness we will be encouraging throughout the month of March, and we will highlight initiatives that help reinforce our message of being kind to one another.

Every donation matters. Together, we can make a difference and help our students stay committed to their pledge to change the world.

A special thank you to the Waterford-Halfmoon UFSD PTO and our Board of Education members who helped make the Think Kindness assembly possible for our students.
