Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School Board Intends to Appoint Superintendent of Schools

Waterford, May 6, 2022 – The Waterford Union Free School District Board of Education is pleased to announce its intent to appoint Michael Healey as Superintendent of Schools at the next regular meeting of the Board of Education on May 19, 2022. Mr. Healey currently serves as the Superintendent of Schools at Argyle Central School District.

Board President Marcia Ricci stated, “On behalf of the Board of Education, we are pleased to announce that Mr. Healey will be our new Superintendent of Schools. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from his previous role as superintendent and will help lead us into the future in providing a strong educational program for every student. Mr. Healey's experience with Capital Construction Projects will be a great support for our current project here on campus. We welcome Mr. Healey to our Waterford-Halfmoon community.”

The Board is offering Mr. Healey a professional agreement with an initial salary of $166,000. He is expected to begin his duties on July 1, 2022.

Mr. Healey has served as the superintendent of schools at Argyle Central School for the past 5 years. He began his career in education in 2001 as a Health and Special Education Teacher/Dean of Students at the Northville Central School. In 2004 he was appointed as the K-12 Assistant Principal. After 1 year he was promoted to the Jr./Sr. High Principal. In 2012, Mr. Healey accepted a position at Galway Central School as the Jr./Sr. High School Principal. He served there until moving on to Argyle in 2017.

Mr. Healey earned an Associates of Physical Education at Hudson Valley Community College, Bachelor of Health Science at the State University of New York at Cortland, Masters of Education in Special Education at The College of St. Rose and Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in Educational Administration & Policy Studies at the State University of New York at Albany. He holds the following certifications: Health, Special Education and School District Administrator (SDA).

WSWHE BOCES District Superintendent James Dexter, who coordinated the search on behalf of the district, said, “The Waterford-Halfmoon Board of Education conducted a very thorough search. They were fortunate to receive a number of high quality applicants. The Board conducted interviews and involved stakeholders throughout the search to help narrow the field. Throughout the process, everyone kept the best interests of the students in mind and found the candidate who best fits their ideals. The Board, school, and community put considerable time and effort into the search process and I would like to thank all of the individuals who participated in the selection process, including the advisory committees.”

Healey will replace retiring Superintendent of Schools, Patrick Pomerville. Healey and his wife, Bronwyn, live in Ballston Spa with their 15-year-old daughter Harriet, and Sasha and Molly, their rescue dogs. He enjoys cooking, reading, photography, and spending time with his family.
