The Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District is a public school providing K-12 education and is funded primarily by property taxes and State aid. The budget is adopted annually by the Board of Education in April and presented to our voters for approval annually, on the third Tuesday in May. The property tax warrant is adopted annually in August and property taxes are levied annually in September. ABSENTEE BALLOT INFORMATION
Any qualified voter of the Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District may request an absentee ballot application by either:
-visiting the District Clerk’s office at 125 Middletown Road, Waterford, NY 12188
-emailing Donna Cramer, District Clerk
Please remember that applications must be received by the district clerk at least seven days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.

VOTER REGISTRATION DATES
Voter registration date will be held on May 12, 2025, from 8 am-12 noon, in the District Clerk’s office, 125 Middletown Road, Waterford, NY, for any resident of the school district that meets the definition of a qualified voter but is not yet registered to vote. After the voter registration date, district residents may register at their county Board of Elections Office.
QUALIFICATIONS TO REGISTER TO VOTE
-A United States citizen
-18 years old by the date of the election
-A resident of Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District for at least 30 days preceding the election
NOMINATING PETITIONS
SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER NOMINATING PETITIONS - EXTENDED TO MAY 9, 2025.
Please be advised that, due to a school board candidate’s withdrawal of their nominating petition within 15 days of the last day for the filing of nominating petitions, pursuant to Education Law §2018, the District is required to extend the school board member nominating petition deadline until 5:00 p.m. on May 9, 2025.
The Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District is governed by a seven-member school board elected by the qualified voters of the school district. This year, we will have three vacancies, two of which will be a three-year term, commencing on July 1, 2025, and ending on June 30, 2028, and one of which will be approximately one year commencing on May 20, 2025, and ending on June 30, 2026, created by the resignation of a board member. This vacant seat will be filled by the candidate with the third-highest number of votes. Nominating petitions are available to Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District residents who are interested in running for a BOE vacancy. 2025-26 Board of Education Candidates
IMPORTANT DATES
March 21, 2025 – Nominating petitions for prospective school board members will be available in the District Office (125 Middletown Road). Individuals seeking election to the Board of Education must submit a petition with a minimum of 25 signatures from district residents.
May 8, 2025 – WHUFSD Annual Budget Hearing, 6:00 pm in the library.
May 9, 2025 – Completed nominating petitions packets are due to the district clerk by 5:00 pm.
