This position reports to the Director of Student Support Services. The Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of all students with disabilities. This position requires adaptability and a positive attitude.

Position is split between 3rd and 5th grade.

Special Education Teacher Expectations
-Provides specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.
-Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.
-Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.

Special Education Teacher Key Qualities
-Builds positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues.
-Practices patience with all students, families and colleagues.
-Always seeking new ways to teach students the way they learn.

Applicant Requirements
-Special Education K-6 certification required.

This is a long-term substitute position from approximately October 6 through December 19.

The approval of substitute teacher pay rate is as follows:
Per diem rate:
-Non-certified substitute teacher: $105 daily rate
-NYS Certified substitute teacher: $130 daily rate
-Retired New York State Certified teachers from Waterford-Halfmoon UFSD: $180 daily rate
-Retired New York State Certified teachers from any district: $155 daily rate

Short term leave (1-89 consecutive days for same WHUFSD teacher):
-Days 1-10: Per diem rates for non-certified and certified as listed above
-Days 11 – 89: $170 daily rate
-Day 90 they would move to step 1 ($52,025).

Program: Life Skills Program

Responsibilities: Support students in our Life Skills program, assisting with daily activities and fostering independence.
