Anderson Humanitarian Award Essay Contest

The Anderson Humanitarian Award is given on behalf of two former WHUFSD educators, Mr. John Anderson and Mrs. Joanne Anderson.

In order to apply for the Anderson Humanitarian Award, you must write an essay based on the following prompt:

Please write a double-spaced, typed essay of 350-500 words describing your participation in community and school service activities. Be sure to include what your involvement has meant to you.


Deadline for submission: May 12, 2023
You can submit your essay into the guidance office or sharing your Google Doc with Ms. DiFabio at [email protected]


Student Government Alumni Award 2023

Submissions are now being accepted for this year's Student Government Alumni Award. The award is given to a graduating senior each year.

Seniors are asked to write an essay of at least 200 words, but no more than 500 words, detailing how you serve your community. Ideal candidates are someone who embodies the goals of the Student Government Association, readily takes on leadership roles, is well-rounded, likable, and takes initiative.

Essays must be submitted to Mrs. Hornung and Mr. Ferrara by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5th. Please type your responses in a Google Doc and share with both Mrs. Hornung and Mr. Ferrara to be considered.

The Student Government Association promotes leadership, self-confidence, and self-reliance. It teaches students important lessons regarding the proper balance of freedom, privilege, and responsibility. The goals of our Student Government include to serve as a liaison between the student body and the school administration, providing a means for student statement in school affairs, encouraging students to excel academically and athletically, to be a contributing voice in our school, to promote unity while respecting individuality and diversity, building school spirit and pride in our community, and to be simultaneously aware of the community in which we thrive, as well as the world in which we live.

Student Government sponsors many school events including the Fordian Forever Pep Rally, the Fall Haunted House, the Semi-Formal Dance, and our annual Moving Up Day Program. The organization conducts charity drives to help those in need both locally and globally.
