A Message From the Superintendent
Timothy P. Lange
On behalf of the
Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District Board of Education, I
extend my sincerest thanks to the residents of the District for their
support on two levels in recent days. One of the primary reasons that I
became interested in the superintendent position here at
Waterford-Halfmoon is the deep sense of community that impressed me from
the beginning. No where was that more evident than with the support of
the August 19th bond referendum and with the presence of
volunteers for the construction of our new playground.
The voter-approved
bond referendum will now mean that extensive and important work to the
school’s infrastructure can be completed. Updates to the heating and
ventilation system, replacement of deteriorating piping and ceilings,
and inclusion of air conditioning in the auditorium are all significant
measures to improve our school and our capacity to deliver educational
programs to our students. Voter support has been a constant in
Waterford-Halfmoon for many years, a testament to the proud and rich
tradition of the community. Your willingness to support this project is
another sign of the value that you place on our children’s education.
The construction of
our playground has been another source of pride and accomplishment for
our school community. Members of the PTO, students, faculty and support
staff, and administrators teamed up with volunteers from organizations
such as Momentive Performance Materials and the Air National Guard to
haul stone and mulch, pour concrete, and of course piece together a
complex system of slides, swings, bridges and climbing walls. Work
crews need to stay nourished as well, and we had many people help with
providing food and drinks to all our volunteers. Without the help of
volunteers from our community, this work could not have been possible.
A special note of thanks goes out to Mr. Mike Byrnes and Mrs. Barbara
Jones for their extensive efforts throughout the week. I must also
recognize the presence of our school’s business manager, Teri Feldkamp,
whose inspiration kept everyone going. We will soon have a wonderful
and exciting place for the children of Waterford and Halfmoon to grow,
learn and have fun.
As we approach the
start of the 2008-09 school year, and as the summer of 2008 comes to an
end, I again wish to thank the residents of the Waterford-Halfmoon UFSD
for their loyalty and support. I hope to meet many of you as the school
year begins and throughout the fall. Have a safe and enjoyable final
weeks of summer.
